The Back Story;

Hi, my name is Vanessa, and I am a third-year doctoral student in psychology, deeply passionate about mental health and healing across generations. Through working as a therapist, I witnessed firsthand how trauma could echo through families, shaping the lives of individuals who may have never directly experienced the original event. These early experiences sparked my commitment to understanding and addressing intergenerational trauma — how the wounds of one generation can silently pass on to the next.

About My Research

My dissertation focuses on exploring the mechanisms through which trauma is transmitted across generations, particularly within marginalized and underserved communities. By identifying patterns and protective factors, I hope my research can contribute to creating more effective interventions that foster resilience and healing for future generations.

Why I’m Fundraising

Research of this depth and sensitivity requires funding for materials, participant compensation, and resources to ensure ethical, thorough, and meaningful work. To help support this project, I am hosting a Paint Night fundraiser — an evening where creativity and community come together for a greater cause. Every contribution, whether attending the event or donating, brings us one step closer to breaking cycles of inherited pain and building a foundation for lasting healing.

Thank you for believing in the power of research, community, and change
